    LIVE THE EXPERIENCE:

“Simplify. Then add lightness.” The Lotus mantra, as espoused by Colin Chapman himself has been the cornerstone of the Company’s engineering efforts in its 70 Year History.

Adding power makes you faster on the straights; subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere”, was another of Chapman’s infamous words to live by, and nowhere is this more evident than in the 2018 Lotus Evora 400.

The latest evolution of the Evora range sports a 7000 Rpm redline.  Mid mounted behind the rear seats beats a V6 heart producing 400 HP and 302 Ft Lbs of torque, linked to a 6 speed manual that sings to the beat of the engines drum – each shift so precise, hurling the car to higher and higher speeds that you cannot help but break a smile. With a weight to power ratio of 8.0lb/HP, 0-60 comes up in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 285 km/h is possible for those with a heavy right foot, steady hand, and a steely will.

But to buy a Lotus for bragging rights at dinner over Beaujolais and Rack of Lamb misses the point. 0-60 times, while impressive, only begin to peel back the onion on this story. The real magic lies in the corners, chicanes, twisty mountainous curves and all that lies in between.  Pushed hard into a corner, and the steering wheel flutters with cheer, allowing you to read exactly what the front wheels are doing. Planting the throttle mid corner, the rear wheels brush off the oversteer keeping everything as famously neutral as Switzerland.

The language spoken to the driver is clear: Character matters. With so many other performance brands of today trading simple technologies like hydraulic power steering, steel brakes, and a truly lightweight chassis for bigger interiors, numb electric power steering and brakes, and excessive amounts of horsepower, a breath of fresh air from the past shows us that the magic often lies in the simplicity of elegant execution.
