Rare and classic, this collectible sports car in a bright Guards Red Finish with Black Partial Leather just arrived in our showroom. Porsche has sold many such collectible sports cars in its 60-plus years of business. Their limited-production 911 Speedster, of which only 2,065 were built in 1989, was one of these. It not only celebrated the end of the first generation of air-cooled 911 production, which dated back to 1963, but evoked the legendary 1954-’57 356 Speedster in name and image–a sure-fire hit with Porsche enthusiasts and automobile collectors alike. With its stylish lines and extremely high-powered six-cylinder engine, this model indeed helped thrust Porsche back to what it once was.
This model marked the first time that the “Speedster” moniker was slapped on a Porsche in 30 years, as the last one was the 1959 Porsche 356 Speedster. The production 1989 Speedster wore a unique aluminum framed windshield that was more than 3 inches lower and raked 5 degrees flatter than that of the standard Cabriolet. One-piece wind-up side windows, lacking the Cabriolet’s fixed quarter panes, curved salaciously in concert with the low-slung “temporary” convertible top, a complicated-to-erect fabric cover that lacked the insulation, lining and optional power actuation of that on its Cabriolet sibling.
Factory options include Sport Steering Wheel with Elevated Hub, Short Shifter, Rear Luggage Compartment instead of Rear Seats, Automatic Speed Control, Air Conditioner, California Type Car, Radio “Charleston”, Left Sport Seat, Sport Seat Right with Red matching piping and Alarm System.
The original exhaust was removed in favor of a sport stainless steel one and the original one is available as well in an easy retrofit.
