The last of the 356 series was the 356C which was also the most advanced, developed, and sophisticated. The problems and shortcomings of the early 356 models had all been worked out by the time production began on the 356C. The 1582cc overhead valve opposed four-cylinder engine was capable of producing 75 horsepower. The four-wheel disc brakes was more than adequate to stop the small 82.7 inch wheelbase vehicle while the four-wheel independent suspension was very mature and its handling characteristics were nearly flawless.
Below you will find a short bio from the last owner-
This 356, a C coupe, was purchased new on Dec. 24, 1964 at Vasek Polak’s dealership in Manhattan Beach, California by DJ. Mr. J was, I believe, a researcher and scientist, and he was something of a radio nut as well. He used the car in California for several years until he was stationed in the Marshall Islands in the western Pacific Ocean. At this time, early 1970s I believe, the Porsche began a sporadic hibernation as Dr. J moved numerous times while the car only occasionally travelled with him. For some years it was stored in Idaho with his parents and at one time was registered in Alabama where Mr. J was stationed.
In total, the car had been in storage for 18 years when I discovered and purchased it from him in 2001. Mr. J was retiring from his work in Albuquerque, New Mexico. At that time this Porsche remained in its original condition – original paint, interior, tool kit, records, manuals, paint stick and keys. The car had about 92,000 miles. It was in excellent original condition but the paint was thin and the rubber gaskets were deteriorating. After much discussion I decided to repaint, replace the gaskets and adjust the gaps to return to factory specification. The result is as it stands today – an unrestored original with about 95,000 miles and one exterior paint job. It comes with the records file and the original delivery documents including the bill of sale. I have had regular maintenance performed with requisite systems work (king & link pins, brakes, steering box, tires, re-chrome wheels, battery etc.). I am the 2nd owner. The car is complete. DJ lives on the banks of the Mekong River in Thailand with his family.
You will be very impressed with this 356C. Serious inquiries only please.
