A truly unique Series 1 E-type roadster.

The Jaguar E-type or XKE has been acknowledged as one of, if not the most beautiful production cars ever made since its introduction in 1961. Without doubt the Series 1 is the most desirable of the three series produced with the purest lines not influenced by later government imposed revisions. The earliest versions with flat floors and exterior bonnet latches today command prices of many hundreds of thousands of dollars depending upon authenticity and provenance aided by unlimited budget restorations. These and many of the later Series 1s are now show-only trailer queens in many cases searching for the holy grail of a 100 point concours score. If this is the “purist” vehicle you are searching for there is no need to read further, this is not the vehicle for you.

The vehicle on offer here has been immaculately restored with thoughtful and practical upgrades in the spirit of the original E-type Jaguar as first conceived by Sir William Lyons, a true, no holds barred, sports car. The E-types were the production descendants of Jaguar’s mighty D-type racing cars and limited production XK-SS road going versions. One of the first production cars to be equipped with disc brakes, independent suspension and a semi-monocoque body in many cases far ahead of the exotic cars of the time and at a much more modest price. It was meant to be driven and driven quickly and safely for pure enjoyment and more than a little excitement. A huge success as a road car it’s engineering excellence also contributed to its major success on the track.

According to the Jaguar Heritage Certificate our vehicle was manufactured on August 23, 1962 and dispatched to Jaguar Cars, New York on the 11th of September 1962 and on to its first owner Mr. J.W. Seal. The paper trail goes dark until the work commissioned by its Canadian owner in 2011. It carries an immaculate paint and body fit and finish in its original colour, Carmen Red with black interior and convertible top. However, what sets it apart is the mechanical restoration and upgrades.

Over 40 pages document a 2 year, 2011-2013, mechanical restoration and upgrade by marque specialist Classic Jaguar (www.classicjaguar.com) in Austin Texas totaling over $80,000 US. Pictures of the engine rebuild and some of the ancillary work are in the Classic Jaguar archives section on their website. Work includes;

Engine rebuild to Stage One Tune which brings horsepower up to 310 from the stock 265. This includes triple Weber carb intake, tuned exhaust and repair, replacement or refurbishing of all internal components to what can only be described as a state of “surgical precision and cleanliness”.

The Classic Jaguar CJ 5spd transmission (a Tremec based 5spd upgraded by Classic Jaguar) previously installed went through a full overhaul.

Clutch components upgraded to Rob Beere (UK Jaguar competition specialists) street specifications.

New torsion bar suspension upgrades.

Clean up and where required replacement of wiring and electrical components.

Seats recovered and interior trim pieces refreshed, repaired or replaced.

And forty more pages of well documented care and attention to detail which make this the ultimate driver while still maintaining the flawless beauty of the Series 1 E-type Roadster.

So if your interests are not for a 100 point show queen but a car that embodies the E-type Jaguar’s true sports car spirit that is meant to be driven and enjoyed, please contact us….
