August marked a major milestone for Pacific Northwest Porsche enthusiasts. Since 1980 Porsche Club of America members have been meeting in Whistler British Columbia for 3 days of socializing and activities, the theme of course being everyone’s favorite car marque. With a few skipped years due to conflicting events and a few years held at different venues, 25 Whistler Weekend events have been held over the course of the last 35 years.
Organized by Canada West Region and Pacific Northwest Region, the event takes countless volunteer hours and hard-work from a dedicated group of enthusiasts to pull off. The results are unlike any other car event in the region, and has attracted club members from as far away as California and Alberta.
The weekend features a Bavarian-style welcome reception, a Saturday concours and display in the promenade at the base of Blackcomb, evening banquet and Sunday Autocross. A bit of something for everyone, in a beautiful mountain setting with plenty of activities for the whole family.
What makes an event like Whistler Weekend particularly special, are the friendships that have formed over the years. Over the course of those 35 years, this has become an annual family event for many. As the children of club members grow into adults, they’ve continued the tradition by now bringing their own young families to the event. A regular group of Whistler Weekend die-hards has formed, and for most this becomes more than just a car show, but a reunion of friends and families.
