Le Mans 24hr Finish Breakfast & Dundarave Porsche Show & Ride

We came together for an early morning (EARLY morning) coffee and light breakfast at our Weissach Showroom on Sunday to watch the last hour of the incredible Le Mans 24hr Endurance Race. We witnessed Porsche take their nineteenth win in the history of Le Mans, as well as their third victory in a row. Cheers of triumph rang throughout our showroom during the last few minutes of the race, an amazing sight to see.

Still riding the high of a Porsche victory, we headed off to another annual spectacle, the Dundarave Porsche Show & Ride in West Vancouver – a fifteen-year Weissach Father’s Day tradition.

The Dundarave Show and Ride for Cystic Fibrosis is a charitable Good Works event by members [...]

The RUF Yellow Bird: The inside story on why it flies again

Alois Ruf explains why his company ressurected its icon.

Just ask Alpina, Rimac, or even Morgan. Storied German brand RUF is the exception to the rule this year.

RUF surprised us a few days before the show opened its doors by announcing plans to propel one of its signature models – the 1987 CTR, also known as the Yellow Bird – into the 21st century. Company boss Alois Ruf sat down with Autoblog to explain why the time is right to release a modern-day Yellow Bird, and why it’s already a smash hit.

Autoblog: What made you decide to bring the Yellow Bird back this year?

Alois Ruf: The most obvious reason was to celebrate the car’s 30th anniversary, but there’s more to it than that. The [...]

    Getting the right tone

With Porsche, life is not just fast but colourful, too – hardly any other car manufacturer has shown as much confidence with colour. And the chameleon-like quality of the 911 has also spread to other models.

In short, the 911 simply looks good in everything. Whether pure white, refined black or strident yellow. Cheeky orange or rich green, blazing red or dignified blue. Even coffee brown suits it – the sportscar model is a perfect fashion model, made for the car catwalk. Never does it look embarrassing; nothing seems unsuitable. On the contrary, particularly bold colours make a statement which should always reflect the driver’s self-confidence. Often it is just those paint finishes that generate the most passionate discussion, that later exude a certain charm and are in hot demand with collectors. Which means: If you discover a colourful gem on these pages, there is only thing one for it: buy!

Every time and every generation has its colours. Hardly any other motor vehicle reflects this maxim so enduringly as the 911. [...]

It all depends on the end

Naoto Fukasawa, the renowned Japanese industrial designer, talks about the purpose of design and why the rear of a car is like the final and perfectly shaped piece of a puzzle.

As a child, I often had the task of peeling potatoes, and I could never get rid of every last trace of soil on them. No matter how hard I tried, the potatoes were always still a little dirty. But as soon as I immersed them in water, they were clean—and suddenly became sculptures that fit beautifully in my hand. That’s something I have never forgotten. Decades later, when designing a cell phone, I pictured users reaching for it in their pockets. That reminded me of my experience with potatoes, so I deliberately chose not to draw aerodynamic lines. Our hands instinctively seek edges; they want to feel textures, to play with them or use them for orientation. Cars are no different in this respect, even though we use our eyes instead of our hands to constantly trace [...]
